Curse you NYC. What have you done to me?

I never thought this Yankee town could steal my southern heart ;)

Sometimes you do get what you wish for. Simply, I wanted it to snow while I was here and it could not have been more perfect. Here we are out for a walk with Callie and one of her main boyfriends, Valcor. The puffy jacket is courtesy of angel Jeremy Scott, who created another smart collection for his return to NY fashion week and had the best party with dancing til dawn.

Right now I am listening to Maria Callas (the next project with the Italian Cultural Institute) as my commune of friends awakens groggily from a late night. I have had an amazing morning already, out for a long walk about town taking in the brilliant Alexis Bittar posters featuring 80s diva Joan Collins in full Alexis Carrington mode, the superb bagel shop, the exhilirating cool air, and many friendly strangers.

Yesterday brought this magnolia a true treat. My heart belonged to the ballet as a young girl and who would have thought I would be sitting in Merce Cunningham's studio watching the last dancers trained under him rehearse a very special piece. Sitting on the bench taking off my shoes before entering the studio made me think of those times going to dance rehearsals myself. I should also note the wonderful shock of seeing shirts hand-painted for Merce c. 1958 by Robert Rauschenberg as they came out of the archives....Is this a dream?!

I followed that magic up with a visit with my lovely friends and collaborators at Nouveau PR. They created the best presentations and shows of fashion week (Risto, Siki Im, Flanders House) and conduct themselves with good manners, style and grace. I <3 Michael and Corinna!

Last night I had a perfect dinner at Cafe Gitane with my dear Athens friends who have lived here for many years now. Of all the places in this big city, how is it that my friend Karyn from LA happened to be sitting right behind me? Serendipity is the theme this week.

I don't want to leave. We are off shortly to the Guggenheim. There is so much life, so much to take in.

I am eating a bit of meat again and drinking coffee.... honestly what happened? ;)

So there you are. My love affair with New York is no longer clandestine...

Vogue Italia loves LA Designers

Costume Dept. "Grand Floral" leggings, left. Laura Kranitz headpiece, right.

Costume Dept. white lace leggings. Laura Kranitz headpiece. The lighting in this shot...the beautiful red and contrast of those white lace leggings. Kill me with joy ;)

October Vogue Italia was near impossible to find for some reason. But we kept stalking her, we had to find her. I had a search team. And viola, here she is with 2 of our LA loveys: accessories designer Laura Kranitz and women's/unisexy Costume Dept. We've all been waiting for 4 months to see how this shoot came together and what made it through to final edit. Also some great shots with Jeremy Scott--especially loving the mouse hands coat. Photographed by Steven Meisel. Styled by the incredible Lori Goldstein.

You think you know LA fashion? This is it people, and so much more to come!

At Home Here In Paris

Avec Monsieur Coste and his cool ride. The Eiffel Tower, Vroom vroom.

Its 4:30AM.

So much to tell. So many experiences. All the senses. Everything. I feel like I float down these streets. The star of a movie called life.

J'adore Paris. Beyond words.....

Does it get any better than this? If it does, WOW, I am even MORE excited!!!

Living in an apartment of my own for over a week. Walking the dog down Saint Germaine. Practicing my bad French. Cruising around the city at midnight on a motorcycle. And the Eiffel tower lit up like this? Does this stuff really happen? Yes, it does. Even for petite females from tiny towns in Virginia. I am not jaded. I am so appreciative of all of this. This is not to brag. I hope it is to inspire :)
Its Paris. It has to be Chanel.

I have to write some things not so vague about Jeremy's show and his so very perfect pop culture commentary on the fuel crisis "Let Them Eat Gas", this amazing luxury helmet designer, the intricate patterns and sculpture of the Manish Arora collection, and sooooooooooo much more.....

For now, easy way out:

Ateliers Ruby Luxury Helmets, Scarves, and so much more......

Dazed & Confused's Jefferson Hack on Jeremy's show

Jeremy Scott Party Pics

Some Runway Shots

JTrent+JScott. Me: Manish Arora jacket, Costume Dept. leggings, Laura Kranitz necklace, Mask from magician's store in Hollywood.
Ok, cut. We'll be on set tomorrow @ 9:30 AM for breakfast at the cafe on the corner of Voltaire.

daysleeper

in one of those many lives i've lived, i lived in athens, ga, home of REM, with my boyfriend of the time for nearly three years. we moved west together and i tortured myself the entire drive across texas listening only to REM and crying in the way some people do to barbara streisand's "Memories." oh, what a patient man to endure my melodrama ;) he eventually became my husband, and then my ex. he's an amazing man, and its still difficult at times to think of our ending. we were together for about 10 years of our very young lives as we grew up and apart. i was teary tonight for some time during the REM concert at the hollywood bowl. my friend mark was sweet enough to comfort me. many things hit me as i realized the last time i saw REM was 9 years ago with my ex here in LA (though we weren't living here). it was a magical evening at the greek theater, amazing seats that our friend who worked for REM arranged for us. but most importantly, it was the night before i bought my wedding dress.... i didn't let myself stay in that sad place too long as i chose instead to recall how great i felt that night with him, and all the amazing memories i've shared with friends over the years listening to and seeing REM perform. i thought of high school friends jodi and william, my boyfriend roger who had the cool muscle car, the best basement parties, and a dock we'd all sit on having our youthful intellectual discourse while gazing at the creek and stars listening to the best music his 35 year old brother introduced us to.

i am sure a therapist would have a field day with this. my attraction to men that i'll never have..... in my fantasy world, probably since age 15, i've gone for creative, skinny, dandy, man-loving blue-eyed men with cherubic lips. with these men its the look but its mostly their minds. the attractive intellect. deep thinkers. poets: on the page, on the dress form, of the song. its different as i've become older because i actually know or socialize with some of them now. michael stipe is such a talented performer. his voice is as smooth as honey and his range is incredible. to me he is as handsome today as he was 20 years ago. and he was so humble with everyone at the after party. i am so thankful to have had this evening with my friends dave, mark and christine--my induction into the beautiful hollywood bowl.

this is from a best friend from high school and college whom i lost touch with over the years only to be reunited through myspace and my stint on crapality television. for reuniting me with dear friends, i am thankful for the evils of technology. we were nicknamed by a "mean girl" in high school as "jessica trendy and jodi fashion." i emailed her to let know i was thinking of her as i prepared to hit the REM show. here's what she had to say regarding a concert in richmond, va circa 1991. mind you, i had an armful of stacked, thin madonna-esque silver bracelets and was throwing them as "gifts" to sir stipe, hoping he'd put one on so i could shriek like a groupie. barely a woman, i wanted the creative gay man's seed.... LOL. we had seats on the side, but even back then, you couldn't keep baby in the corner as they say. i had to be front row!!!! jodi says, "I remember Mr. Stipe himself stopping the concert, because "someone" was throwing bracelets on stage. I busted my leg falling through chairs as we lept through the crowd to get front row. the two of us were trouble. i have a million funny memories. I would do it all again in a heartbeat................... jodixoxo"

Some of My Photos: Palm Springs For Coachella & Jeremy Scott/Adidas Party @ Frank Sinatra's Estate

But we're all small....we're European..... (more on that below...)
Another obsession for years. Modern Windmills. They are like this alien robot army. So surreal. Can't you see Dali being inspired? Every time I approach Palm Springs on that drive, I most anticipate the moment I come upon them. My 2nd day there, I found this road off the highway on my own, drove alone into the windmill farm, and stared at them for some time in awe contemplating.....then I took my rental rollerskate car high speed on the road and spun out in the dust. So Dukes of Hazard... hee. I mean, I am from Virginia ya'll.

Its just so beautiful there.....
After a hot day, a hot night. A little absinthe again from our Green Door fellas to start out the night. I bounce between being in a cocoon for days to emerging for a bit as the social butterfly. Vintage Emilio Pucci on me and on Eddie who was a good sport about it all--wearing my robe. (His Dries shirt did match afterall). A handsome southern gentleman.

The poolhouse @ Frank Sinatra's Twin Palms estate.
Ezra from Opening Ceremony is a character, a witty and dapper guy who seems to love miss Chloe (she does have amazing lashes) and was born 15 years too late. Thanks to her for taking the junk food chile-limon chips and Planters dry roasted Virginia nuts out of the kitchen for us to enjoy on the lawn :) We were starving after the caterers took the delicious food away :( Luckily we still had IZZE juice and FIJI water.
I heart U Jeremy :) I guess we had a tie in our "robe-off?" He does rock a robe well. Jeremy can do it all. Sweet as pie. Amazing designer. Great dancer. Sexy pout. Fabulous style. And most importantly, such a love. A very kind and nurturing friend to so many. I feel blessed. This is probably 4 or 5AM? He always looks so good.
These shots in Cory's room @ Frank's are by the darling babe Matt Irwin. Here we have sweet & funny Anouck, sassy Linlee (my gypsy partner in crime this time for our Thelma & Louise roadtrip...without the Brad Pitt hookup sadly ;) and moi. A break from too much dancing fun :) 4AM? The wallpaper is amazing. Its on the ceiling too! Check Linlee's Coachella style story for STYLE.com
A colorful bunch: Cory, Frankie, Matt, Anouck, J* & Izze sparkling juice.

Mademoiselle Sarah Leferl of Colette. Always chic and fun-loving :) The fabric and pleating on her Rodarte skirt was beautiful.

Insane leggings! I love this girl's style. Carri of Cassette Playa.

The gorgeous and talented Santi/Santogold with lovely Mr. Scott. Her new album just dropped. Go get it!!!!

A perfect desert half-moon. Photo taken while laying on Frank's lawn. Then once the sun came up, and everyone went to sleep, I dove into the pool @ 6AM wearing my outfit. I wanted that feeling of the long layers of Pucci floating behind me as I swam underwater....I wanted it for myself, without attention. It was amazing........the quiet and heavy swoosh of the fabric....a mermaid.....
Sunday at maybe 1PM we had the breakfast caravan of cars to Elmer's upon Linlee's urging. The wait staff are real characters, lets leave it there. That thing Sarah is photographing took our breath away! A German "pancake?" What???? It was 14 inches in diameter. We all had so much food the day after the soiree. Omelets, pancakes, waffles with fruit and whipped cream, hash browns, you name it. Thank you Sarah for treating us to the massive breakfast! Funny quote from Anouk to the waitress when we were trying to go from 2 tables to one. Waitress: "That table is too small for your whole group." Anouk (in a sweet little pleading voice): "But we're all very small, we're European..."

Paper/Lindsay/Jeremy Luncheon @ the Sunset Marquis

Paper threw a luncheon in honor of Lindsay Lohan's March cover photographed by our dear, darling, talented designer Jeremy Scott.

We had a perfect turnout of people on a gorgeous day christening the new restaurant at the Sunset Marquis. Our French Chef, the sweet and humble Guillaume Burlion pulled out all the stops from starters to main course to desserts all prepared onsite. Yum! Yes, people in LA sometimes actually eat ;)

Felt good to do a good job for all the clients, especially sweet Jeremy, the lovelies @ the Sunset Marquis and you know how much I love Kim & everyone @ Paper! Tons of coverage. Entertainment Tonight, InStyle, People, LA Times (running this Sunday), Variety, etc.....

Jenn Chan @ Fashion Week Daily did a really nice piece on it. Here is some of it. Click their link for more. Christening the new restaurant and recent renovation of the Sunset Marquis Hotel & Villas in West Hollywood, L.A.'s fashion insiders, including Cory Kennedy, Liberty Ross, Samantha Ronson, Mark Hunter, Abigail and Lily Chapin, Steve Aoki, Cameron Silver, Katy Rodriguez, and Adam Moonves soaked up the sunshine on Tuesday at a private luncheon hosted by Paper and Diesel to honor March cover girl Lindsay Lohan and designer Jeremy Scott. "I was excited about the opportunity to work with Jeremy. He is one of my favorite designers," said Lohan. "I was in love with the silk dress I wore on the cover!" As for her now-infamous New York Magazine shoot, Lohan smiled, "I'm really proud of it."

Paper Magazine 24 HR Store LA

(I am so tired here.....but happy :) He's all sexy.)
What FUN! Design, socializing, good music, art, an interesting environment, good style, and friends old and new :)

SOME PHOTOS + Paper Mag's take

SNAKE PHOTOS

Kim at Paper magazine put together a fabulously edited pop-up store with wares from 25 brands/stores. colette had the best ltd. edition Tanqueray bottle designed by Jeremy Scott, the Piper champagne by Viktor & Rolf, darling Hello Kitty Pez, fun little things. Mollusk had some incredibly beautiful surfboards. I should have snatched up that vintage Betsey Johnson skirt from Screaming Mimis (I've loved that store and their illustrated advertisements for years) but it was just too crazy in the place and I could not keep up with all the visually appealing things everywhere......and time just went too fast.

So, lets see, Dave bought the coolest, sexiest gold computer thingy I've ever seen. The Lacie drive from Rose Apodaca's stand. Hot hot piece of computerness. I bought hundreds of dollars worth of feathered handmade headpieces--champagne on the brain and paying tribute to my ancient native American blood, and talked to so many nice people from Show Pony, Colette, Jeremy's kids, MAC, the snake boy, giving and receiving guidance to/from the young the hipster girls (I show how to wear feather headresses, am shown the latest real gold-flaked Givenchy lipgloss), and more. Oh, thats the amazing Ann Magnuson that I'm putting my divine feather hat creation on by Laura Kranitz who sells at the super amazing Show Pony in Echo Park.

I was too enthralled to take photos on my own, but above are some for you to click to and enjoy thanks to our friends at Paper and the Cobrasnake.

A great experential marketing creation by Paper--the magazine was brought to life through the art, commerce, characters and artists all in one place in humble Los Angeles for 24 hours.....

Saying goodbye is always so sad :( LA loves you Paper!

Becoming the Undead is Liberating! I Like Handlebars.

Dance photo from the cobrasnake. I like being a tiny (zombie) dancer.

'Cause this is Thriller! Paper magazine's Colette dance party hosted by Mr. Jeremy Scott was just an incredible time! Monmarte Lounge was the spot. The perfect space for it. My costume was so much fun to make and I LOVED my makeup! I felt like I accomplished it like a pro (what do you think Roxy?). Making all my skin geisha white (yes, the girl who is practically a geisha does have geisha powder) was really interesting.

night of the living undead: Jeremy & Jessica. glowing eyes courtesy of the other side.

I normally would not post these many photos of myself or probably pose this much, but I am proud my little creative endeavor turned out so well. And I was rather acting another character all night.

Overall, I think I really like the undead look and its kinda sexy in a bizarre way. You don't care if your makeup is all smudged, or your hair is a mess, or someone spills a cocktail or um, blood on you, or any of that stuff. Its like rock and roll f-you, f-me, I am FREE!

Photo from the cobrasnake.

I've always had this slightly vampire fetish, the whole biting of the neck thing and the idea of that freakish connection to the one who gave you eternal life.....or giving it to another..... I KNOW it sounds crazy! Or maybe spiritual in a sweet sort of way. Yes. Don't judge, I am not actually a vampire that I know of. And without freaking any of you out, I kind of have had experiences with some powers and such, but anyway......onto the fun. (insert ghoulish Vincent Price laughter here)....

Learning the Michael Jackson Thriller choreography was just so FUN! THE BEST! The girls at Colette in Paris realized the power of pop music dance moves a while ago and came here to show us Americans the fun. Slapping faux blood all over my friends was like some frenzy! It was like a blood dealer at a vampire party. Urban Decay Gash lip gloss was helpful as well. People were flocking in, wanting the latest undead beauty tips and blood. And you could just WATCH everyone become liberated once they had blood dripping from their mouth, nose, eyes, or ears. Honestly, it was a sort of an aphrodisiac or I don't know what, but the blood and makeup CHANGED people I am telling you! Look, I could hardly keep my tongue in my mouth. Ha.

Orlando is such a cute zombie and great dancer! BTW, the sticky, drippy, juicy faux blood was a refreshing mint flavor for those bloody zombie or vampire kisses you know you are hot for.

So only 50-60 of us were allowed to take part in the class while the rest of the party watched. I was my lucky #13. Sweet CC was my big cheerleader as she watched from the DJ booth. We had the lesson and danced for at least 45 minutes or maybe an hour. Seriously, I want to do that every WEEK! The instructor was amazing, a fabulous personality, and talented man. At the end, we had a zombie dance off, odd numbers against even numbers and then we were all over the floor writhing around. WOW! It was also fab fun dancing one on one with our instructor after the Thriller lesson, and a bit of my favorite sweet nectar..... champagne (not blood).

Our dance instructor.

He has great moustache style to go along with his fancy footwork.

More photos to follow from BB & Eri...send them on girls!

And some on the Cobrasnake site: http://thecobrasnake.com/partyphotos/dancedancedance/index.html

More and video will be up on http://www.papermag.com and who knows where else.

Paper, Colette friends, dance instructors, & Jeremy: Love you all TO DEATH!
Eternally yours,
Jessica

Jeremy Scott--Paris

Models walk the runway during the Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer 08 Collection at the Fashion Show held at Elysee Montmarte of Paris on October 2, 2007.

This show was produced by my firm. Aside from that relationship, I have to say, I do honestly like this collection. And of course the models, the gorgeous lips and makeup. He does make a trashcan lid look good and the garmets themselves are really smart. And I LOVE the accessories.... Now the fellas, I haven't looked as closely at.

Jeremy will be showing this collection in LA @ Smashbox on Wed. Oct 17th. I am sure every queen and hipster alike will be trying to get in.
